I see more writers from other specialties addressing the EMF/RF/ 5G topic. Featured below is a beautiful nutrition-focused EMF blog by Regenerative Garden Designer Gavin Mounsey, incorporating graphics from Environmental Health Trust.
Also articles about the effects of space travel are trickling into the news, for example: Researchers explore how the immune system goes awry during space travel and the implications for human aging on Earth “Astronauts in low Earth orbit, such as on the International Space Station, suffer from immune system problems, especially infections, latent viruses reactivating, and skin sensitivity.” and Space Travel Makes You Dumber hmmmm.
One of my teachers, when hearing good news, is fond of saying that “the clean-up crew is coming,” meaning youth. I heard on my AM car radio (an endangered species) about the meteoric growth of non-alcoholic beer, which goes along with the move towards digital sobriety and dumb phones. Despite denials like the embarrassing 5G “study,” below, the word is getting out. “Youth’s desire to use social media is impacted when they learn how companies are explicitly trying to manipulate them.”
For an example of a positive trend, see the Humanality effort.
A cell phone or individual wireless device is a small object with an enormous impact, and a choice, - and many do not want to mindlessly contribute to the very real consequences, recognizing that it violates their core values and humanity.
“Like bookends propping up a centuries long story of colonization, extraction, and war, veiled by notions of convenience and promises of tech "progress-topia," people are slaving away mining for minerals and dismantling e-waste so the story can persist. A new story is long overdue - one of satiety and inter-being that benefits all living beings and Mother Earth.” - Kate Kheel of Safe Tech International
In case you missed it, we shared some recent international resources on mining and E-waste on July 8. ‘Reducing’ from a smart phone to a so-called dumb phone reduces the cultivated demand for immediate gratification, towers, antennas, satellites, ocean cables, data centers, electricity, and water; and liberates neurophysiology and the brain stem from an addictive control grid; and is not dumb. More to come. Best, Patricia

FEATURED: Recipes for Reciprocity
HEALTH EMF: RECIPES FOR RECIPROCITY; The article includes beautiful pictures and some of excellent graphics and other materials from Environmental Health Trust. Radioprotective, Radiomitigative and Radiomodulatory whole foods and naturally occurring plant/fungal compounds The first of several posts I am working on that offer specialized preventative/mitigative dietary approaches that focus on whole foods and medicinal plants/fungi that increase one's health sovereignty. The following is an updated version on a previous post I had created that focuses on foods you can eat that protect your body against the deleterious impacts of both ionizing and non-ionizing (artificial EMFs) forms of radiation. This is the first official post of a number of posts I will be sharing on here that offer intel on specific foods and/or medicinal herbs/fungi that can help you to heal (and/or optimize the function of) particular parts of the body as well as to protect your body against external sources of toxicity, inflammation or other deleterious effects on your cells. These posts represent some of the specialized dietary lists I will including in my next book. Now, for an honest assessment of the current state of affairs. This world is increasingly radioactive due to nefarious and/or short-sighted human (mostly corporate/military activities). This is true in the case of artificially created sources ionizing radiation and also in the case of non-ionizing radiation expressed in a wide spectrum of artificial electromagnetic fields that permeate our lives and communities. Starlink: the last croak for the frogs? And an appeal to the UN to sign People in hard-to-reach areas of the planet want mobile connectivity, especially where earning a living demands it. That gap is being filled at speed by a number of satellite internet services, including Elon Musk’s Starlink. By the 2030s there could be 100,000 satellites at low orbit in our unregulated atmosphere. But at what cost does this blanket connectivity come for our sky-navigating and other wildlife and is there anything we can we do about it? Starlink: the last croak for the frogs? - by S.E.M. NEWS AND NOTES
AI ENERGY: Google’s Net Zero Plans Are Going Up In Smoke For years, the search giant has touted its alt-energy deals and net zero plans. But these four charts show that Google’s electricity use, CO2 emissions, and carbon intensity, are soaring. Last week, I talked to Doug Hohulin, a Kansas City-based technologist who works on AI and closely follows the data center sector. He summed up the predicament facing Google and the other power-hungry members of Big Tech. “There’s just not enough wind and solar available,” he said. “Nuclear used to be seen as bad, and now it’s good.” Both of those statements are true. Right now, it appears that Google and other Big Tech companies will see continuing increases in emissions until the U.S. and other countries get lots of new reactors built and online. That won’t happen quickly and it won’t be cheap. But Google’s emissions show that Big Tech doesn’t have many other choices. Google’s Net Zero Plans Are Going Up In Smoke (substack.com)
AI ENERGY: What Do Google’s AI Answers Cost the Environment? Google is bringing AI answers to a billion people this year, but generative AI requires much more energy than traditional keyword searches What medications cure headaches? Should you kill cicadas? If you Google these questions in the U.S., answers may pop up directly at top of the results page—products of “AI Overviews,” the latest artificial intelligence offerings from the search engine giant. Google, which handles more than 90 percent of Internet searches worldwide, has promised to bring this feature to one billion people by the end of 2024. Other tech companies may follow suit; Microsoft’s search engine Bing has also introduced a similar AI option. Gemini, Google’s family of large language models, generates the text found in AI Overviews. These systems are powerful but not flawless. In the weeks since the feature’s debut, it has recommended gluing cheese to pizza, for instance, and changing a car’s blinker fluid.* But these early flubs, which Google chalked up to misinterpretations or a lack of data, have so far overshadowed another possible drawback: the financial and environmental cost of AI search. Embedding generative AI in such a widely used application is likely to deepen the tech sector’s hunger for fossil fuels and water. [] Luccioni is currently working on a project to give Energy Star ratings to different AI models and types of tasks. She says she hopes this would help AI users make more informed choices. “We know that there’s a cost to this,” she says. “We should know what that cost is.” ( YOU CAN READ ONE ARTICLE FOR FREE BY REGISTERING: What Do Google’s AI Answers Cost the Environment? | Scientific American

CHILDREN/YOUTH SCREENAGERS: Teens, Junk Food, and Social Media: Helping Them Make Better Choices (ARTICLE AND VIDEO) Yesterday I released a new episode of The Screenagers Podcast titled "From Junk Food to Social Media: How Teens Get Manipulated"In it, David Yeager, PhD, a psychology professor at the University of Texas at Austin and a well-regarded scientist in mindsets and motivations trained under the pioneer of Growth Mindset theory, Carol Dweck, discusses a recent study that examines how youth’s desire to use social media is impacted when they learn how companies are explicitly trying to manipulate them. In today’s blog, I share an excerpt from the episode where Yeager shares one of his groundbreaking studies, in which kids chose to eat 30% fewer sugary foods in school cafeterias during lunch because of the intervention they did. What’s really interesting is that this 30% drop lasted for several months after the intervention! David’s interventional studies focus on harnessing children's and teens' values, such as wanting autonomy and caring about social justice, to help them make healthier and wiser choices in their lives. https://www.screenagersmovie.com/blog/teens-better-choices
CHILDREN YOUTH SCHOOLS UNIVERSITIES: Humanality Let’s reclaim our humanity and engage reality together.,, is a non-profit corporation that exists to help people discover freedom through an intentional relationship with technology. Founded in 2023, we have an ambitious road ahead. We want to recultivate tech-free, incarnational engagement with one another and the natural world, while still living in the modern world and utilizing the goods of technology to serve us as tools, not toys. Our goal is to help humans flourish through creating healthy relationships with technology in our day to day lives. A 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to helping people find freedom through an intentional use of technology. Humanality now has clubs on six different Catholic college campuses and provides resources for seminarians. What’s our why? At Humanality, our mission is clear: to unveil the profound impact of our digital age on individuals, families, and especially the youth. The ubiquity of smartphones, with half of U.S. children owning one by age 11, and the surge in social media usage, has led to a concerning decline in happiness, with links to depression, anxiety, and more. Psychosexual development is also at risk, with pornography exposure affecting teen relationships and self-perception. We're committed to charting a more humane course, helping individuals navigate the modern age without being enslaved by it, and striking a balance that restores the essence of human living. Catholic News Agency: Humanality now has clubs on six different Catholic college campuses and provides resources for seminarians. Newsweek Innovative Steps to Reclaim a Human Way of Life for the Next Generation | Opinion - Newsweek Collegiate - Humanality Clubs on College Campus Our mission is to rekindle genuine human connection on college campuses, providing GenZ students with a smartphone-free experience. Our Humanality clubs, currently at 5 universities nationwide, are rapidly expanding to 10 by year's end. ENERGY/UTILITIES/Small modular nuclear reactor for Data: The overblown hype of the nuclear “bros” Even casual followers of energy and climate issues have probably heard about the alleged wonders of small modular nuclear reactors, or SMRs. This is due in no small part to the “nuclear bros”: an active and seemingly tireless group of nuclear power advocates who dominate social media discussions on energy by promoting SMRs and other “advanced” nuclear technologies as the only real solution for the climate crisis. But as I showed in my 2013 and 2021 reports, the hype surrounding SMRs is way overblown, and my conclusions remain valid today. Unfortunately, much of this SMR happy talk is rooted in misinformation, which always brings me back to the same question: If the nuclear bros have such a great SMR story to tell, why do they have to exaggerate so much? 4. SMRs Cannot Be Counted on to Provide Reliable and Resilient Off-the-Grid Power for Facilities, Such as Data Centers, Bitcoin Mining, Hydrogen, or Petrochemical production 5. ENERGY: New report raises concern about surge in country's dirty energy usage: 'We hope that this report will help governments, world leaders, and analysts move forward' (fossil fuels) Global dirty energy consumption was at its highest in 2023, and one country showed a concerning increase, hitting an all-time high, as reported by Reuters. What's happening? The Energy Institute, in collaboration with consulting firms KPMG and Kearney, released the 2024 Statistical Review of World Energy report on June 20, with full-year data from 2023. The report showed that the global use of fossil fuels — dirty energy sources such as oil, coal, petroleum, and natural gas — was at a record high. Reuters reported that usage "exceeded 40 gigatonnes [44 gigatons] of CO2 for the first time." China, "the world's largest consumer of coal and second largest consumer of oil," as described by the Energy Institute, saw its use of dirty energy rise 6% to a new high, according to Reuters. The report highlighted that the relationship between dirty energy and renewable energy is not entirely reciprocal, where an increase in one does not equate to a decrease in another. HERE (this is about fossil fuels, Dirty Electricity is also the name of the book by epidemiologist Sam Milham which is about power quality, another issue)
ENERGY: The Dangers of ‘Carbon Tunnel Vision’ Grasping ecological complexity leads to new ways of thinking about climate change and viable responses to it. Almost everything we’re doing to cause climate change involves technology — from cars to cement kilns to chainsaws. We humans love technology: it yields profits, jobs, comfort, and convenience (for some, anyway; it also tends to worsen overall economic inequality). So, predictably, we’re looking to alternative technologies to solve what is arguably the biggest dilemma humanity has ever created for itself. But what if that’s the wrong approach? What if more technology will actually worsen the problem in the long run? In this article, we will see why there is no viable techno-fix to climate change, and why trees, soil, and biodiversity are our real lifelines. The Dangers of ‘Carbon Tunnel Vision' - Truthdig
ENTERTAINMENT HORROR FILM: BiFan 2024 Review: BASE STATION, Paranoia Reigns in Dystopian Indie Sci-fi from Talent to Watch Park Syeyoung returns to BiFan with his second feature, Base Station, which he co-directed with artist and filmmaker Yeon Yeji, who has starred in some of Park's other work and also plays the lead here. In this rural-set, lightly dystopian sci-fi, Eden and her younger brother Hyun-ho have been living an isolated life in the wooded mountains, away from society. Eden insists on this lifestyle as she fears that society's boundless electricity consumption will give them what she calls 'electromagnetic hypersensitivity syndrome'. But after three years, their quiet and hardy life is interrupted when telecom technicians arrive to install electricity pylons in the mountains and Hyun-ho goes missing.[] While that film was lyrical and sad, Base Station evokes a paranoid mood. As we get sucked into Eden's fear of the invisible influence of electricity coursing through society, we begin to feel as though those very currents are tingling through our own muscles, like invisible strings tethering us to our manmade surroundings. Helping to achieve this disquieting effect is the film's pulsing and scratchy sound design, as well as brooding images of the dark forest and its pulsing shadows, one of these being a shot that appeared earlier in Park's short film Twilight, which earned a Special Award earlier this year at the Jeonju International Film Festival. Base Station is a haunting exploration of modern anxieties and social malaise. The film enjoys its world premiere at the 2024 Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival. FCC: FCC Extends Pause of Lifeline Voice Phase-Out and Mobile Data Changes The Federal Communications Commission's Wireline Competition Bureau extended, for an additional year, the waiver pausing both the phase-out of Lifeline support for voice-only services and the increase in Lifeline minimum service standards for mobile broadband data capacity. Without this decision, support for services that meet only the voice minimum service standard, which currently stands at $5.25 per month, would be eliminated in most areas on December 1, 2024. This action occurs at a time when the marketplace for affordable broadband services is undergoing significant changes as a result of the end of the Affordable Connectivity Program. This action will avoid any changes that could potentially result in the disruption of communications for Lifeline subscribers and will also provide the Commission additional time to consider the data found in the ACP Transparency Data Collection and Future of USF Report, which will help inform future FCC decisions on supporting voice-only service and setting Lifeline minimum service standards. https://www.benton.org/headlines/fcc-extends-pause-lifeline-voice-phase-out-and-mobile-data-changes
FCC: FCC Chairwoman Rosenworcel's Remarks to National Association of the Deaf On July 3, Federal Communications Commission Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel spoke at the National Association of the Deaf Conference in Chicago (IL) about the ways "digital technologies can improve the lives of people with disabilities," and about some of the work the FCC has done to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. "Two weeks from now, the FCC will vote on a new proposal to improve video programming accessibility for individuals who are deaf and hard of hearing. The FCC has standards for closed captioning that allow users to customize the font, size, color, and other display features of captions. But, as too many of you know and as we have heard from NAD, these tools are too hard to find. That is why we will vote on rules to make display settings for closed captioning more “readily accessible” for all." https://www.benton.org/headlines/fcc-chairwoman-rosenworcels-remarks-national-association-deaf
FIRES NORM LAMB: More Destruction from the Lithium-Ion Battery In the little town of Otay Mesa, California, a fire broke out on May 14, 2024, and was not confirmed as out until 10 days later. What was the item that caused the fire to burn so fiercely for such an extended period--it was lithium ion batteries. The batteries were being stored at the Gateway Facility and operated by LS Power and its subsidiary, Rev Renewables. The San Diego Union Tribune reports the storage facility occupies 95,000 square feet and was storing approximately 6,700 racks of Lithium-ion batteries. A CalFire official stated that at least 8 million gallons of water was poured on the fire. The county’s Hazmat team tested water runoff and smoke from the fire, fortunately no toxic levels were reported.
5G INDUSTRY PROPAGANDA: SPAIN “Study” 5G doesn’t affect your health – here are 5 points to put your mind at ease [] (editor comment unless you have a brain) Such feelings of fear or trepidation are a normal response to things we know are there but cannot see or feel in any way. For this reason, Spain’s Scientific Advisory Committee on Radio Frequencies and Health (CCARS, by its Spanish acronym) regularly publishes comprehensive reviews of all available scientific evidence on these types of radiation. By doing so, we aim to guarantee that this technology is safe for all of us. CCARS has published seven reports since 2008. Here, we are going to look at the findings from our most recent report, published last year. 5 points to put your mind at ease From our review of over 200 scientific articles, we have extracted five key points of reassurance: 1.None of the articles suggested a possible link between cancer and exposure to these types of radiation at typical levels. 2. There was no evidence that the hypersensitivity some people claim to suffer from – even with apparently objective symptoms – is related to these types of radiation. In fact, this can be explained by the nocebo effect, where people suffer symptoms solely because they expect to get sick. 3. There is no clear evidence of any impact on male fertility. 4. There are no conclusive studies showing a link between these types of radiation and fetus development, or later child development. 5. We found no evidence that suggests a link between exposure to phone or wifi radiation and negative effects on sleep, or that they cause headaches. These are very subjective symptoms that can result from various intersecting factors – including the very fact of worrying about the effects of radiation. 5G doesn’t affect your health – here are 5 points to put your mind at ease (theconversation.com) (if you have the intestinal fortitude to contact The Conversation, “Academic rigor, journalistic flair” Contact The Conversation

HEALTH: SpaceX mission reveals grisly space travel impacts on humans from blood destruction to DNA mutation recent study has unveiled the havoc that space can wreak on the human body, including impacts on blood, cells, and the immune system. The research drew data from the SpaceX Inspiration4 mission, which in 2021 saw two men and two women orbiting Earth for three days. The findings revealed that space travel disrupts the immune system, sparking inflammatory responses and significant disruption to cells. The brief, high-altitude spaceflight led to the production of both documented and previously unseen cytokines. Cytokines, generated by the immune system, are vital for immune responses and muscle regulation but aren't typically associated with inflammation. Some of these cytokines were identified as exerkines, proteins produced during exercise by muscles. There was also a notable increase in myokines, proteins originating from skeletal muscle cells, suggesting a physiological response to microgravity rather than purely an immune response, reports the Mirror. Although the group studied was small, the consistent cellular and molecular changes observed provide a trove of information for future research and protective strategies for astronauts. AND Reuters: Data from all-civilian crew details health effects of space travel When pediatric cancer survivor Hayley Arceneaux and a trio of crewmates spent three days in space in 2021 as part of SpaceX's Inspiration4 mission, they made history not only as the first all-civilian team to orbit Earth. They also provided the most in-depth data on record regarding the effects of space travel on the human body. New research based on this data details changes in the brain, heart, muscles, kidneys and skin, immune regulation and stress levels and a breakdown in the activity of subcellular structures called mitochondria amid the microgravity environment, increased radiation and other factors in space. [] "We did see some evidence of brain-associated proteins in the blood after the mission, which we had also seen once before in the Twins Study (a 2019 study based on retired NASA astronauts and twins Scott and Mark Kelly), and we think is evidence of brain stress during the mission," Mason added. Mason said this might be explained by findings in experimental mice flown to space that experienced disruptions in the blood-brain barrier, a layer of cells protecting the brain. Cognitive function in the Inspiration4 crew, as measured by the University of Pennsylvania's Mathias Basner, was not affected, Mason noted. INDUSTRY PRICING: T-Mobile and Price for Life It’s very easy for a marketing department to try to meet sales quotas by making promises to customers that the company might come to regret in later years. There is no question that a price for life is a sales gimmick, and there are no gimmicks that marketing departments won’t try if allowed. But there is an argument to be made for a price for life if an ISP is disciplined enough to never raise the rates on such customers. There is a huge amount of value in a customer who sticks with a company for many years. This customer will have paid for the cost of the connection many times over and generates a huge amount of bottom-line year after year. But offering prices for life today obligates management for the next several decades to keep track of such customers and never raise their rates. INDUSTRY DIGITAL DIVIDE: NATOA, the National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors (NATOA) recently made Community Broadband and Digital Equity Awards to three communities and recognized the strides the cities have made in tackling the digital divide. Solving the urban digital divide is a much more complex issue than tackling the rural broadband gap. [] It’s easier to attack the rural availability divide when you can easily identify areas with no fast landline broadband. It’s a lot harder to pinpoint areas within cities that the incumbent providers have ignored and where broadband is not as good as what is delivered in surrounding neighborhoods. It's hard to bring an immediate broadband solution to a neighborhood where residents don’t have computers or tablets and don’t know how to effectively use them. Everybody trying to solve the urban digital divide is wrestling with what to do first – because it does no good to give devices to homes without good broadband, but you can’t succeed in building a network when folks aren’t ready and able to use it. INDUSTRY Bottlenecks for BEAD Construction [] there are numerous reasons why BEAD fiber construction might be delayed. Companies building in the northern U.S. must contend with a short construction season that makes it hard to build in the winter. While the whole industry has been gearing up to support BEAD projects, there still might be supply chain bottlenecks that pop up to plague some projects when there is a sudden flood of BEAD projects. Some projects are going to get bogged down in environmental studies – particularly if the firms that do this kind of work are also swamped by the number of BEAD projects. I predict that the heaviest BEAD construction is going to be in 2026, meaning these pre-construction issues will hit in 2025. A lot of states have said that getting broadband to rural areas is a high priority – but if they don’t look at these key issues, then state and local governments will be part of the problem instead of the solution. LEGAL INDUSTRY: Ending the Chevron Deference This ruling will have several consequences for agencies like the FCC. The ruling is a huge win for the big ISPs and cable companies that the FCC regulates. If those companies don’t like an FCC decision, they just have to claim that the FCC doesn’t have the specific authority to make the ruling – and the chances are that they will be right. Agencies like the FCC create regulations based on broad guidelines given to them by Congress. Congress does not dictate the minutiae of the dozens of issues the FCC considers every month. For Congress to do so would largely eliminate a reason to even have an FCC. As ISPs challenge FCC rulings, courts are likely going to put FCC ruling on hold. There will be a huge flood of such suits being filed against all federal agencies, and these new cases are going to pile up in the courts and take years to clear. Even if an agency like the FCC is deemed to have had the authority for a specific ruling, it may take years to go into effect until the courts settle the matter. This new interpretation by the Supreme Court means a lot of FCC rulings are going to be blocked by the courts due to the agency not having the specific authority for a given decision. One way to clear the mess this would be for Congress to pass more specific laws. In this case, Congress could pass a law allowing the inspectors and fees, and the issue would be settled. An active Congress could clear cases out of the courts by approving the regulations that are being challenged. But that’s not realistic for several reasons. Congress has been largely ineffective for a number of years as partisan politics have blocked most laws from even being considered. From a more practical perspective, there are dozens of federal agencies that make decisions about a wide range of important issues all of the time, and intervening in all of them would bog Congress to doing little else. SPACE: NASA astronauts spend unexpected July 4 on the International Space Station The two NASA astronauts docked with the orbiting lab June 6 for what was supposed to be an eight-day mission, but their return home may be delayed for months in what has become a star-crossed test flight for Boeing's new Starliner capsule. Not only was the launch of the spacecraft with astronauts aboard for the first time repeatedly delayed because of multiple problems, but NASA and Boeing are taking a cautious approach in returning the pair to Earth largely because of five thrusters that malfunctioned during docking. The delay also will allow engineers to further study a helium leak in the capsule's propulsion system that was first detected before launch and worsened as Starliner made its way up to the space station roughly 250 miles above Earth. The gas is used to pressurize the Starliner's propulsion system.
SPACE: If we really want people living on the moon, we need an astronaut health database Scientists have created the first-ever aerospace medicine biobank to help outline the impact spaceflight has on astronauts' health. This repository integrates data and samples from various missions, including those performed by SpaceX and NASA, enabling researchers to compare and standardize space medicine findings and apply their results to future missions.

7/23 Please join us on Tuesday July 23rd at 10am Pacific/1pm Eastern for CHE Cafe: Protecting scientists from industry intimidation. When Dr. Herbert Needleman found his credibility under fire after publishing data on children’s lead exposure in the early 1980s, he offered this advice to early career environmental health scientists: “Do not avoid difficult areas of investigation. Take risks. If scientists exclusively choose the safe routes, avoid controversial research problems, and play only minor variations of someone else’s themes, they voluntarily turn themselves into technicians. Our craft will indeed be in peril.” In this conversation, co-hosted with The New School at Commonweal, Dr. Lisa Bero and Dr. Lariah Edwards will share their own stories of industry intimidation, and reflect on steps needed to protect researchers and maintain scientific integrity. Bath, UK, July 7 “Most passersby, residents, and tourists were unaware of the upcoming Smart City Trial. Only one of those spoken to whilst the campaigners distributed 11,500 leaflets knew about the trials and most expressed they were not happy about not being informed. Katherine, dressed as a bee, embodied the campaign’s intention to also protect Bees and Nature.
