Why did NIH abruptly halt research on the harms of cell phone radiation? Devra Davis, Opinion Contributor, The Hill, Feb 2, 2024 In a shocking reversal, the National Toxicology Program (NTP) of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences has quietly disclosed that it will stop studying the biological or environmental impacts of cell phone radiofrequency radiation.This decision comes despite results from the program’s carefully engineered and reviewed decade-long $30 million animal studies that found cancer, heart damage and DNA damage associated with exposure to cell phone radiofrequency radiation at levels comparable to those experienced by Americans today. The sudden end of civilian government efforts to study potential health impacts of wireless radiation constitutes a glaring abdication of responsibility. Brain Tumor Rates Are Rising in the US: The Role of Cell Phone & Cordless Phone Use Head and neck tumors associated with cell phone use have increased in the U.S. since 2000 Since the year 2000, the U.S. has experienced significant increases in the age-adjusted incidence rates of four head and neck tumors associated with cell phone use, including the most serious malignant brain tumor (glioblastoma), a non-malignant tumor on the outer covering of the brain (meningioma) and cancers of the salivary and thyroid glands. Among youth less than 20 years of age, nonmalignant meningioma and thyroid cancer significantly increased. Whereas the size of the population in the U.S. increased 16% between 2000 and 2019, the number of cases reported in the National Cancer Institute's SEER 22 registry for these four tumors had a greater increase: a 53% increase for glioblastoma, 124% for non-malignant meningioma, 52% for salivary gland cancer, and 132% for thyroid cancer. The increase in age-adjusted incidence rates for these four tumors is likely attributable to the chronic effects of mobile phone use in addition to other factors including improvements in screening.

Industry - Dealing With Broadband Outages The most realistic option is to find a second or even third broadband connection so that the business doesn’t lose all functionality. I’m finding that as many as 10% of the small businesses I talk to have gone to a two-ISP solution for redundancy. A company may only get the amount of bandwidth they need from the local cable company, but DSL, fixed wireless, or satellite as a backup is better than going totally dead. This is an expensive option, and a business has to do the math. What’s the real cost to the business for expected outages? Americans’ Social Media Use Social media platforms faced a range of controversies in recent years, including concerns over misinformation and data privacy. Even so, US adults use a wide range of sites and apps, especially YouTube and Facebook. And TikTok – which some Congress members previously called to ban – saw growth in its user base. According to a Pew Research Center survey of 5,733 U.S. adults conducted May 19-Sept. 5, 2023:

YouTube by and large is the most widely used online platform, with 83 percent of US adults reporting ever using the platform

Facebook is also a dominant player in the online landscape, with 68 percent of Americans reporting that they use the platform

47 percent of US adults say they use Instagram

27 percent to 35 percent of US adults use Pinterest, LinkedIn, WhatsApp and Snapchat

U.S. population growth stalls but wireless sub growth booms The year’s national population growth was still historically low but was a slight uptick from the 0.4% increase in 2022 and the 0.2% increase in 2021. Still, with growth of 1.6 million people, did every one of those people who were either born or migrated to the U.S. in 2023 immediately run to a wireless store and buy a new postpaid phone subscription? Doubtful. We’ve heard several general explanations for why postpaid phone subscriber numbers constantly grow.

More children are getting their own phones;

Businesses are subscribing to more wireless lines;

Postpaid is cannibalizing prepaid.
